Christ the King School

The Challenge

Christ the King needed to upgrade old security technologies including substandard surveillance cameras, outdated access control and a partly-functioning door intercom system.

The Solution

Tech Electronics helped secure grant funding, and delivered a holistic solution including hardware upgrades for all outdated systems, managed through Genetec’s Security Center software.

Background

Christ the King School is a private Catholic school located in University City, Missouri, founded in 1928. CKS serves over 200 students spanning from preschool (age 3 and up) to 8th grade.

Alisha Novel (Technology Solutions Sales, Tech Electronics) reached out to the school in September 2023 to offer assistance securing funding for a technology upgrade through the School Security Grant Program, and subsequently guided them through the process of upgrading their technology.

Challenge

When approached about the School Safety grant in September 2023, CKS not only hadn’t applied, but were not even aware they were eligible to receive this grant funding.

CKS’s prior security technologies were largely outdated and/or in poor condition. Their surveillance suite was a makeshift mix of older model cameras and some residential-grade units, many of which could not be controlled and monitored using a single video management system. Their access control platform and hardware were antiquated and needed to be replaced. Their video intercom system no longer had a functioning video player and did not allow them to speak to people at the door.

Solution

Tech Electronics provided an assessment of CKS’s existing security suite and a budgetary proposal for upgrades as specified by Senior Solutions Designer Matthew Putt, as well as guidance throughout the grant application process. Once the application was complete, the school received approval for funding in a little over a month.

Tech Electronics upgraded CKS’s security hardware with single and multi-lens IP cameras, new access control readers and a new video intercom system for the front door, all of which are fully unified and monitored via Genetec’s Security Center platform. The platform not only provides a user-friendly interface and remote access via mobile devices, but also enables Federation, which allows the school to provide law enforcement officers with access to the school’s security solutions in the event of an emergency.

We determined Genetec Security Center was an ideal fit for CKS because of the ease of managing multiple different security technologies in one single platform. I was confident that the user-friendliness and mobile access would be huge positives for the customer.

Feedback

Tech Electronics took what is often a really tedious and difficult process in applying for grants and made it incredibly simple. Alisha was familiar with the process, provided the resources we needed and ultimately made my job very straightforward.
(…)
Michael (Miller, Systems Configuration Specialist, Tech Electronics) was great to work with, and got us up and running on the Genetec system very quickly – it couldn’t have been much simpler.
(…)
Tech Electronics was able to carry out the installation over summer break, which was huge for our school. They have been very responsive after the fact as well. The way they – especially Alisha – have supported us throughout this process makes us feel really encouraged about partnering with them going forward.
