Laumeier Sculpture Park was in need of a sound system for the new Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center
SOLUTION
Sound System for a modern building
OVERVIEW:
Laumeier Sculpture Park was founded in 1976. It is one of the first and largest dedicated sculpture parks in the country, making it a unique component to the cultural landscape of St. Louis.
In 2015 Laumeier Sculpture Park added the Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center to the grounds to display artwork year-round and enhance the learning experience for the community. The modern architecture created an open space with white backgrounds to capture the essence of every exhibition in the new building. However, the new structure did not encompass the presentation of sound. Since the secondary purpose of the Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center is to host private events such as weddings and galas, having a sound system that catered to the multi-user space was imperative.
Laumeier Sculpture Park, Special Events Manager, Sara Matthew, was tasked with finding a technology partner that could provide a solution that delivered a pleasurable listening experience for guests but did not take away from the contemporary space. She turned to Tech Electronics for a solution.
“The challenge of this project was to design a solution that not only solved the sound issues but didn’t take away from the contemporary feel of the building,” said Steve Knese, Director of Pro Sound for Tech Electronics. “To assure the Laumeier staff we could deliver just that we provided them with a live demo of our proposed solution.”
SOLUTION:
After demonstrating how their solution could provide a pleasurable listening experience without being visually distracting, Tech Electronics was selected for the project. The Adam Aronson Fine Arts Center is now equipped with the latest in sound technology:
- Bose Mini Line Array – chosen because it provides wide horizontal coverage and is designed for acoustically demanding spaces that require high speech intelligibility. Also chosen because the speakers can discreetly blend into the interior.

- Bose Portable Speaker – chosen for outdoor use and its clarity, strong output levels, and consistent coverage.
- Audio-over-IP (AoIP) – implemented to distribute the audio signal to an existing network port outside the building.
- Matrix Mixer – implemented to route multiple input audio signals to the various portions of the building.
