Last month, we welcomed a new executive and leader into the fold! Manish, who has served for several years as a member of our Executive Advisory Board, is a veteran of more than two decades in the technology industry.
“As the building technology industry continues to move toward a combination of hardware, cloud and AI-based solutions, we needed someone with his experience and leadership skills to successfully lead us through this transformation,” says Kurt Canova, owner and Executive Chairman of Tech Electronics.
We’re thrilled to have Manish on board and can’t wait for you to meet him as well… so we invited him for a quick chat on his new role, Tech’s direction, and what makes him tick.
What are some aspects of your new role that you're most excited about?
Manish: Overall, it’s a very exciting time in the world of building technologies. There’s so much transformation that is either currently taking place or just around the corner, and I believe Tech is in a great position to be at the forefront of that movement. For example, you see how Nest, Google Home, and Alexa are changing the expected experience for technology in the home. We want to deliver that same level of connectivity and convenience to our customers, and it’s a thrill for me to be leading that charge.
What lessons have you learned in past leadership experiences that you plan to apply at Tech?
Manish: For me, it’s very simple.
1. Focus on the business outcome of our customers. As we bring technology and solutions, we need to ensure those technologies are easy to use and drive business results. In the case of building technology, that is safety, comfort, compliance and positive building experiences.
2. Build amazing talent and culture: Inspired employees drive results and satisfaction for customers and the company. I believe investing in employee development, training, and then inspiring them to make a big difference in the company is key to success.
You're in a unique position, being charged with leading this family-owned business. What is your working relationship with the Canova family like?
Manish: They made a very courageous step by determining, “The best thing for this business is to bring in an executive to help us realize a bold new vision for where the company can go and what it can achieve.” I’m humbled to be that person, and it’s a responsibility that I take very seriously. Having known Kurt and Laura for several years, I have a great appreciation for what the Canova family has built over the last six decades. Now, my job is to make decisions to put Tech in the best possible position to be successful six decades from now.
What can you tell us about Manish outside of the office - what kind of things do you like to do in your free time?
Manish: Well, my wife and I have two boys, so one of the things we enjoy the most is spending time with them. We love to travel, and that’s an experience I love to share with my kids. We believe in whole, minimally processed foods as a way to stay healthy and I am always looking to experiment and explore those. Having said that, we do enjoy entertaining friends and having a good drink. Apart from that, any of my friends will tell you I love gadgets and I tend to get very excited about trying out new technologies. So if you look at my kitchen and my house… you’ll usually see I’ve been trying out new electronic gadgets. [Laughs] You can take me out of the office, but I guess that technological spirit comes home with me.
Thanks for your time, Manish, and we can’t wait to see the things Tech will achieve under your leadership going forward! For more of his insights, be sure to follow him on LinkedIn!
