Increases in the number of sophisticated home theater systems, and an internet marketplace in which A/V “bargains” abound, have contributed to the belief that operating a professional conference or board room is no different from operating a home theater. Surely someone in your company with a credit card and internet access should be able to design and manage your business’s A/V systems, right?

We are here to advise you that the better option is to select an A/V business partner who can objectively evaluate your company’s needs and design the systems for each space in which it will be used. A/V design contractors are not restricted to purchasing whatever the internet has to offer and can contribute to making sure your systems are easy to operate and maintain.

Here are some things to consider as you start the process of implementing your A/V systems:

Find an A/V partner that understands and can share each of the ways a particular A/V system will help your company reach its goals. A good partner will do this by gaining a thorough understanding of your business and your goals for new or upgraded A/V systems. (Those goals could include growing sales revenues, increasing brand recognition, collaborating more effectively via teleconferencing, etc.)

Find an A/V partner who will help build your systems for the ever expanding “digital” future. Every d

ay more and more A/V systems and devices are becoming network based. Your A/V partner should have a solid understanding of networking, and the best ways to integrate the A/V and I.T. worlds.

Find an A/V partner who has a support network in place to keep your A/V systems working at peak efficiency. Does your partner have the ability to perform remote diagnostics, firmware/software upgrades, etc.?

Find an A/V partner who can offer multiple purchase options. Given the rapid technology changes, maybe a lease option is a better fit for your organization. The ability to set up a plan that gets you the “latest and greatest” every 2 or 3 years without making a large capital purchase could benefit your company.

With professional A/V technology growing at such an impressive rate, it’s clear that these systems will play a fundamental role in your business for years to come.

The post Why partnering with an A/V solutions provider is better for your business appeared first on Tech Electronics.

Tech Electronics Named Top Workplace

Tech Electronics

News

business

featured

St. Louis

Top Workplace

St. Louis, MO (June 24, 2016) – Tech Electronics, a family-owned, technology services organization, has been named a St. Louis Post-Dispatch 2016 Top Workplaces for the fourth year in a...

The post Tech Electronics Named Top Workplace appeared first on Tech Electronics.

St. Louis, MO (June 24, 2016) – Tech Electronics, a family-owned, technology services organization, has been named a St. Louis Post-Dispatch 2016 Top Workplaces for the fourth year in a row. They called me in to look at designing and installing an Intrusion Detection System in multiple buildings. During our walk through the owner told me about the business, how they have been at this location for 50 years and that they never needed a “Burglar Alarm,” so sad but this is the world we live in. As we continued, I noticed that all the keys to all the vehicles hung on a peg board. All very nicely color coded and labeled with their parking location. I thought to myself, how convenient if someone breaks in they still can steal the most expensive assets of this company, the CARS. I finished the survey and designed the solution as we discussed.

My initial proposal was to install infra-red motion sensors, high-tech glass break detectors, cellular communicator, interactive keypads, all of which can be controlled by your smartphone. All of these features, which were requested by the owner, came at a surprising cost and not in the budget. So I ask, what is most important? They replied the employee and customer safety. Then I asked what was next most important? They said the cars.

That’s when I brought up the keys on a peg board. It was like an invitation to steal the cars. I suggested that maybe, like in nature, a simpler solution was better. How about we scale back (did I, a sales person, say that) for now and look at basic solutions. Let’s secure the keys to the cars by putting in a minimal panic and perimeter detection system. This solution saved the customer a lot of money and time because we prioritized what was important. In the end the expensive high-tech system would not have solved the customer’s problem, the keys and cars would have still been vulnerable. As the business owner, it is important not to let your emotional reflex dictate an exaggerated response. As the salesperson, there is something to be said for being a “trusted advisor” help ferreting out the real issues.

The post Risk Management – Buy Smart Not Big: By Jamie Brown appeared first on Tech Electronics.

Embracing New Technology by Embracing Employees: By Susan Crane

Tech Electronics

Small Business

Voice/Data

business

small business

Technology

Tips

VoIP

Wow, does technology change fast or what? Just when you think you have a handle on that new system, your company is getting ready to roll out the latest and greatest version. As a technology solutions provider, we believe that it is imperative for your business to stay at the forefront of technology but only if the cost justifies the means. Keeping up with technology just for the sake of keeping up is pointless. Many companies upgrade without really knowing the reasons why they should. As a business owner, if you are going to spend the time and money implementing new technology, then do your homework. We suggest doing the following before putting your company and employees through another technology upgrade.

First, talk to your employees. Your employees are the ones that will be using the technology day in and day out, so why wouldn’t you want to get their feedback? Take your telephone system for example – some employees couldn’t do their jobs without a phone and their productivity depends on it. When deciding if it is time to upgrade your telephone system, find those employees and utilize them. Find out what was working for them with the old system and what isn’t. Find out what features could help them be more productive and what features are slowing them down.

Second, do a cost analysis of your company’s carrier services. There are so many companies that upgrade without taking a look at what they are currently spending on certain services. For example, when is the last time you looked at your company’s phone bill? It comes every month but most of the time it is paid for without a second thought. With today’s carrier services and new technology such as VoIP and SIP Trunking, phone bills can be cut drastically, especially when it comes to long distance.

Now you are thinking, this is great, but we don’t have a team in place to do this, which is where your technology solutions partner comes in. As a technology solutions provider, this is a service we offer. Not only does it help us better understand what solutions would be the best fit for your company; it can help us save you money and improve productivity. If there is no added efficiency or improvement in customer services, you are just putting a new telephone on a desk.

The post Embracing New Technology by Embracing Employees: By Susan Crane appeared first on Tech Electronics.

Creating a Customer for Life: By John Pile

Tech Electronics

Service

business

sales

Tips

In the ever changing world of technology it is so easy to fall into the trap of being a product based salesperson instead of a solutions based salesperson. As a seasoned salesperson, here are a couple of reasons why I think this happens:

Manufacturers come in with their latest and greatest products, dazzle us with potential earnings and put a quota on our company.

There is always pressure to produce, especially in a field with declining margins and growing quotas.

When the above drive your sales everyone is happy, right? Your manufacture is happy, your company is happy and your customer is happy. Until your customer is not happy, because instead of buying a solution they were convinced to buy a product, one that might not have been in their price range and now there is no money to buy other products they need. This is also known as the pressure sales approach, which does not tend to make a customer for life.

How do we keep ourselves from falling to this trap? By becoming a solutions based salesperson. A salesperson who walks into a customer appointment with one thing in mind – developing A Customer for Life. This is done by researching your customer: their needs, the financial stability, the size of their organization and be aware of their surroundings. Do they have a lot of fancy state of the art products? Is their parking lot full of luxury cars or standard cars? What is the attire of employees? These are the KPI’s on what and how they buy. If their KPI’s aren’t apparent, have them talk about themselves. This will tell you a lot about their habits. Then move into your reason for your visit. Keep in mind you have a window of 20-30 minutes before you lose them. Find out what they have, why it does not work for them or how it falls short.

Next, find out where they are in the buying process. Are they ready to move forward or just getting budgets? Based on their timeline tell them you will get back with them with a solution. Do not tell them which product you think will work best because that sends the message you are selling product and not solution. Taking the facts they gave you and your observations of the person and facility to help you determine which solution would best fit their needs makes you well on your way to creating A Customer for Life. You are now the driver and the leader and we all know the drivers know the destination and passengers are just along for the ride.

The post Creating a Customer for Life: By John Pile appeared first on Tech Electronics.

How A/V technology can help you reach your business goals: By Steve Knese

Tech Electronics

Pro Sound and AV

A/V Technology

Audio Visual

business

The global professional Audio/Visual (A/V) industry is expected to total $114 billion by 2016. With that much money being spent, how do you make certain that your company is getting the best value for the technology you need to enhance your business? It’s simple – select an A/V business partner who can effectively demonstrate the value of those A/V systems to you. Here are some things to consider as you start the process:

Find a partner that will help you connect the A/V technology to your business goals.

Find a partner that will share each of the ways an A/V system will help your company reach its goals. A good partner will do this by getting a thorough understanding of your business and your goals for a new A/V system. (Examples could be to: increase sales, maximize brand recognition, enhance teleconferences, or some combination of all these items.)

The analysis of this information is often based on the “S.M.A.R.T. Objectives” format, which will guide the technology selection process to help you ensure that each recommended device meets your goals. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for the items listed below:

Specific – The end goal is a precise objective, such as “increase sales.”

Measurable – The end goal can be measured (e.g., “increase sales by 10%”).

Achievable – Can the goal actually be reached?

Realistic – Is the goal worthwhile for your company?

Timely – Is now the right time to aim for this kind of goal, or are there other factors that might prevent success?

With these objectives in mind, you can more effectively connect A/V technology to your goals—now and in the future.

Let your A/V solutions provider build a strong case for your return on investment (ROI)

The term “value” carries different meanings in different situations so that’s where ROI comes in. How is a new A/V solution going to provide a strong ROI? To truly demonstrate the benefits of the technology they are advocating, a good partner will provide a thorough, compelling ROI case.

This is accomplished by learning a bit more about your business and how A/V technology might improve the bottom line, either by boosting profits or saving on costs. For example, a new digital signage network might improve brand recognition, promote price cuts, and increase sales. A meeting room with video conferencing capabilities and a digital whiteboard might help your company cut down on its corporate travel budget. An effective speech privacy system can provide measurable results in employee productivity based on reduced worker distractions. Even if the ROI comes in less obvious ways—such as improved customer experience or more effective customer service – look to your A/V partner to highlight those benefits to you.

Look to the future

With professional A/V technology growing at such an impressive rate, it’s clear that these systems will play a key role in your business for years to come. In an era where Amazon has same day shipping and Google can provide instant information on virtually anything means – if it’s not immediate, then it’s not good enough. As a technology services provider, if you’re not addressing these changing expectations then you will soon find yourself on the outside looking in.

One of the buzz words in our industry right now is “Real-Time Service”. This didn’t just come into vogue because it sounds good; this is the new expectation across the board whether you’re delivering a product, a service, a quote or even responding to an inquiry. As technology evolves, so do the expectations on our industry. In our case – it’s no longer acceptable to have a technician respond to an on-site issue in 1-3 business days or to respond to a request for a quote the following day. Customers expect a response in real-time and as services providers we should reevaluate and/or restructure our businesses to meet this escalating expectation!

In an effort to keep up with these customer expectations, our service department rolled out a Technical Service Desk allowing for a more expedient, convenient and less expensive way to resolve issues to better support our customers. One of the benefits was our ability to provide remote support and diagnostics – our experts can analyze, identify and diagnose the root cause of a problem remotely and provide solutions in real-time allowing for a more cost-effective service response. Remotely accessing and servicing our customers’ critical life safety and communication systems was a good first step, but it’s not good enough.

To truly move to real-time service you can’t be reactive as a company, you need to be proactive. To do this a technology service organization has to be able to monitor their customers’ systems and even predict potential service issues or critical outages before they happen. Then and only then, can you confidently proclaim that you provide “real-time service” to your customers. If you are not moving quickly in this direction, you need to be. If your service provider isn’t moving in this direction, it is time to find a new one.

In a world run by technology, understanding that these technology systems are the essential infrastructure that enables modern businesses to operate safely and productively, and to acquire and server their customers is crucial. Meeting and exceeding customer service expectations will help your customers advance their own critical missions.

The post Chasing the Ever-Changing Customer Expectation: By Sean Devereaux appeared first on Tech Electronics.

TO SIP OR NOT TO SIP…..That is the Question: By Jennifer Huxley

Tech Electronics

Voice/Data

business

business owners

IT

Technology

Telephone Systems

telephony

VoIP

Search SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) on Google and you will find SIP Service, SIP Trunking, VoIP Service, Hosted IP, etc. With so many definitions out there, it’s hard to really...

The post TO SIP OR NOT TO SIP…..That is the Question: By Jennifer Huxley appeared first on Tech Electronics.

Search SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) on Google and you will find SIP Service, SIP Trunking, VoIP Service, Hosted IP, etc. With so many definitions out there, it’s hard to really know what it is and what it can do for your business – luckily we are here to clarify.

SIP – a communications protocol for signaling and controlling multimedia communications sessions for voice, video calls and instant messaging over IP networks.

SIP Trunking – a way for SIP Providers to deliver unified communications to customers with telephone systems capable of supporting SIP or through a gateway. SIP Trunks can be used in place of traditional voice circuits or in a blended environment.

The Benefits of SIP

SIP has many advantages but the primary drivers are cost and flexibility. Businesses can purchase and pay for what they need today. As requirements change, scalability is easy and can be implemented in less time than with traditional services. SIP is perfect for multi-site; geographically disperse companies with local number portability. For example: a San Diego phone number can be answered at your Corporate Headquarters in Springfield for less money than traditional services such as call forwarding, remote call forwarding, etc. Another benefit is that SIP trunks are virtual, reducing the real estate (hardware/costs) of your system.

When to SIP

Technology is changing at warp speed. The industry is moving away from basic Telco services and embracing all things IP. Major manufacturers are focused on IP based systems as digital systems and services fall by the wayside. Whether hardware, software or connectivity, SIP is here and it’s coming like a freight train.

What you need to know

SIP is a new technology; therefore, customers need to understand what they are getting. Also, making sure it is being implemented correctly may take longer than with traditional voice services. The established carrier practices with lead times, testing and turn-up have all but vanished. It’s difficult to get finite schedules from some SIP Providers. There may be no pre-configuration, no warning that lines are being ported. You have to be ready.

Tips for when you SIP

If, after reading this article, you are apprehensive, don’t be. There are ways to reduce possible issues.

Choose a Vendor with experience in SIP implementations and with the systems they support.

Make sure QoS (Quality of Service) and Voice Prioritization are addressed and that you know what you’re signing up for. Beware of those who want to bring SIP in over your regular Internet Connection.

Choose a manufacturer with a method for certifying SIP Providers with their systems.

Choose a SIP Provider with a reputation for quality and service on systems.

Check references. Find out how vendors worked through problems when learning how to deal with SIP.

Ask SIP Providers questions about pricing and understand what is included. Features and functionality standard with traditional services may not be available with SIP.

Remember, all SIP Providers and their services are not created equal.

Just as with IP Telephony, ready or not, it’s here. SIP and Enjoy!

The post TO SIP OR NOT TO SIP…..That is the Question: By Jennifer Huxley appeared first on Tech Electronics.
